AAR/WR Awards Competitions


AAR/WR 2011 Student Paper Competition:

AAR/WR invites its student members to compete for its best student paper award. The award includes cash honoraria for the first, second, and third place papers. Eligible entries must be papers already accepted for presentation on the 2011 AAR/WR program; winning entrants must be registered for the 2011 conference and must present their papers in person. Only registered students who have had a paper accepted and will present this paper at the March 2011 meeting at Arizona State University are eligible. Awards will be given to the papers that present the most intellectually sophisticated and rigorous treatment of a topic related to the conference theme. Awards will be announced and given at the WECSOR reception at the conference. To be considered for this award, applicants should send digital copies of their finished papers to Rebecca Moore, President AAR/WR (remoore@mail.sdsu.edu. Deadline for submissions is March 1, 2011.

    First Place: Catherine Mary La Fuente: "Lesbianism and Islamic Law: Examining the Boundary Between Love and Legality"
    Second Place: Eric Hall: "Toward an Understanding of the Role of the Church in a Secular Social Order"
    Third Place: Sarah E. Robinson: "Islam, Ecology and Ecofeminism: Countering the Death of Nature"

AAR/WR invites its independent scholar members to compete for its best independent scholar paper awards. These two awards include cash honoraria. Eligible entries must be papers already accepted for presentation on the 2011 AAR/WR program; winning entrants must be registered for the 2011 conference and must present their papers in person. Only non-tenure track scholars who have had a paper accepted and will present this paper at the March 2011 meeting at Arizona State University are eligible. Awards will be given to the papers that present the most intellectually sophisticated and rigorous treatment of a topic related to the conference theme. Awards will be announced and given at the WECSOR reception at the conference.
